Pimsluer language learning system is named so because Paul Pimsleur was the one who first developed and introduced this style of language learning. Dr. Pimsleur had spent years researching and studying how young kids learn a language without knowing the proper sentence structure methods and grammatical rules. He spent years focusing on how the language learning process works and through his studies and research he came up with the pimsleur language learning system.

The pimsleur learning method is based on an audio system in which the student learns the new language with the help of pre recorded tapes. The student is required to listen to the tapes and repeat the words and phrases along with the tape when prompted. All pimsleur audio lessons are of 30 minutes each, the students are required to repeat the lessons until 80% or more accuracy is obtained after which they can proceed to the next audio lesson.

The methodology followed by pimsleur language learning system is as listed below:

• Each lesson is 30 minutes long. Every audio lesson would have a native speaker talking in the language that has to be learnt and the instructions would be in english for easy understanding for the student.

• The student has to listen to the audio lesson and follow all the instructions.

• At regular intervals the tape would prompt the student to repeat the words and phrases once the speaker has finished speaking them.

• Once the student repeats the phrase, the speaker would then move on to the next phrase and the meaning would be explained.

• After repeating a new phrase the student would be prompted to repeat an old phrase that was previously taught in the tape and incorporate it along with the new phrase.

• Newer phrases are introduced while the old phrases are repeatedly being asked to recall and repeat. This random recall method helps the student associate meanings with the foreign words.

• Once the student successfully learns one audio lesson he/she can move on to the next lesson.

The reason why the pimsleur language method works so well is because this system combines some of the behavioral principles that are vital in language learning process. According to various studies in order to effectively learn a new language it is important to have a scheduled repetition of words and phrases over a period of time.
